A view from inside the courthouse for Trump’s historic trial

Monday marked the start of Donald Trump’s hush-money trial in New York City. The former US president is accused of trying to cover up a $130,000 payment to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.

It is the first time a former or current US president has faced a criminal trial.

The BBC’s Kayla Epstein was in the courthouse and explains how the day unfolded.
